Dan Heck joined Touchdown Ventures in 2017 as part of the Philadelphia team. After growing up in Miami, Dan attended college at the University of Chicago, where he studied Economics and History, graduating with Honors. During his time at school, he was also an all-conference performer on the Track & Field team. After college he moved to Minneapolis, where he lived for three years and met his wife Betsy. Most recently, he graduated with honors (top 20% of the class) from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, with a focus in Entrepreneurship.
Prior to Touchdown, Dan worked at Hyde Park Angels, a leading angel group based in Chicago. While there, he worked with incredible founders in the burgeoning Midwest entrepreneurial ecosystem. He was responsible for sourcing and evaluating companies across the B2B and B2C landscapes, with a particular focus in retail and retail technology. Prior to HPA, Dan worked as a Project Lead and Analyst in the Merchandising organization at Target Corporation, where he had a front seat to witness the revolutionary change occurring across the retail landscape.
Outside of VC, Dan enjoys trying new restaurants, playing board games, reading, or rooting for the ever-mediocre Miami Marlins. A few of his favorites are:
Restaurant Experiences: State Bird Provisions in SF, Monteverde in Chicago, Fu-unji in Tokyo
Board Games: Ticket to Ride or any word game (especially Scrabble and Bananagrams)
Books: One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Count of Monte Cristo, All the Light We Cannot See, any great biography
